SUBJECT: Major Events Coming to Vancouver – Grey Cup (November), Taylor Swift (December, & Invictus Games (February) | |
Dear Granville Island Community, As we prepare for an exciting season of world-class events in Vancouver, we want to ensure that residents, businesses, and visitors to Granville Island are well informed about potential impacts. Three significant events—the Grey Cup, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, and the Invictus Games—will take place in the coming months, and while these events bring vibrancy to the city, they may also affect traffic and access to Granville Island. Here’s what to expect: The 111th Grey Cup & Grey Cup Festival The Grey Cup will draw thousands of football fans to Vancouver. While the main events will be centered around BC Place, we anticipate a rise in foot traffic and parking demand in the Granville Island area, especially from visitors exploring the city’s landmarks and attractions before and after the game. We advise residents and businesses to prepare for an increase in visitors this weekend and consider alternative transportation options if necessary. Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour Swifties rejoice! Taylor Swift is bringing her highly anticipated Eras Tour to Vancouver for three nights of concerts. This series is expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees, which will likely cause congestion on major routes leading to and from Granville Island. With BC Place only a short distance away, traffic patterns around False Creek, Granville Bridge, and nearby streets may be affected, particularly during concert evenings. We encourage visitors to use public transit, cycling, or walking when visiting Granville Island during these dates. Granville Island Light Installation To encourage Taylor Swift fans to explore Vancouver, CMHC-Granville Island is teaming up with the Vancouver Downtown Hotel Association to display life-size lyrics of Swift’s songs in iconic locations around the city. Look for “Willow”, set against the majestic willow trees on the south side of the island this December! Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 The Invictus Games is a multi-sport event featuring wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women, both active duty and veterans, from around the globe. Vancouver is honored to host this prestigious event, celebrating resilience, camaraderie, and sportsmanship. Several venues throughout the city will be hosting events, so please be aware of potential traffic changes and plan your travel accordingly. As always, we thank you for your patience and cooperation during these exciting times. These events not only bring global attention to Vancouver but also provide a boost to our local economy, culture, and community spirit. Let’s embrace the opportunities they bring and showcase the best of Granville Island! Sincerely, Coordinator, Cultural Programming & Events |
